Trapped by Beauty is video art created and inspired by the way in which femininity is produced in a wider cultural context, more precisely the way in which mass media images understand femininity, gender and sexuality.
Even today, women are deeply associated with the body, and therefore with sexuality as an inseparable element of the body, while her gender identity remained fixed and determined. Analogous to the concepts of femininity is concept of beauty, sensuality, seduction and reproducibility. Therefore, women are the favorite target of the beauty industry, but also the most common object of presentation of consumer goods. Contemporary consumer culture tends towards purity and absolute aestheticization of society and as such is in constant search for body perfection.
Body forms, as well as the very concept of beauty and ugliness, are actually social constructs, very unstable, changeable and vary from given era and culture. In conclusion, appearance is not naturally determined but socially normed. Subordination to the processes of reshaping, beautifying the body with various aesthetic interventions and even the exercise of cosmetic rituals represents the physical discipline of subjects who actually submit to market, interest principles and dictates, making our identities trapped and lost within the mass media presentation.
